About

Kilcoole Primary School is a rural primary school situated between the Sugarloaf Mountain and the Irish Sea in Kilcoole, Co. Wicklow. The school provides a spacious, purpose‑built environment that includes a meditation garden, an outdoor classroom and several zoned playing fields, allowing pupils to learn and play safely in a natural setting. Its educational ethos is rooted in Christian values while actively promoting equality, diversity and inclusion for children of all races, cultures, religions, genders and abilities. A strong emphasis is placed on holistic development, with a curriculum that integrates academic learning with a wide range of extra‑curricular activities such as drama, Gaelic football, hurling, camogie, soccer, tin whistle, choir, dance, chess and bodhrán. The school also participates in national initiatives such as the Active School Flag, Green Schools and Student Council programmes, reinforcing its commitment to physical activity, environmental stewardship and student leadership. The school operates a collaborative partnership with parents, the local parish of Kilquade and the wider community, encouraging parental involvement and community engagement. Resources are directed towards supporting pupils with special educational needs and fostering lifelong learning, preparing children with confidence and character for future challenges.

History

Kilcoole Primary School was established in 2010 following the amalgamation of St. Anthony’s BNS and St. Brigid’s GNS. Since its formation the school has expanded by adding an extra class each year and currently holds planning permission for extensive extensions and renovations to accommodate its growing enrolment.
