About
Kildalkey National School is a mixed primary school serving children from Junior Infants through Sixth Class. The school follows the Irish national curriculum, placing emphasis on holistic development, active learning and community involvement. Classrooms are equipped with 65‑inch interactive touch‑screen displays and full internet wiring, enabling the integration of digital resources into daily lessons. The purpose‑built two‑storey building, opened in September 2018, provides twelve modern classrooms, a spacious P.E. hall, a junior play yard, two basketball courts and a football pitch. Sustainable design features include large windows for natural daylight, energy‑efficient lighting, a rain‑water harvesting system for toilet use and covered bike storage. Dedicated car parks and a safe traffic flow system support parents and bus services, while pedestrian crossings and a new footpath encourage walking. The school also promotes a vibrant extracurricular programme, with recent achievements in horse riding, art competitions and school productions, reflecting a strong commitment to nurturing talent beyond the classroom.
History
The original school was built in 1931 on the site of a former chapel, later expanded in the 1960s and 1970s and further supplemented with prefabricated units from 2000. After a series of consultations and planning stages between 2011 and 2016, a new state‑of‑the‑art two‑storey building was constructed on parish land off the Athboy road and opened in September 2018, providing modern facilities and sustainable features for the Kildalkey community.
