About

Kilmurry National School is a co‑educational Catholic primary school situated in the scenic Lee Valley, County Cork. The school provides a vibrant, safe learning environment for children across six mainstream classes and three dedicated autism classes. Its educational philosophy is holistic, encouraging pupils to excel not only academically but also in sport, the arts, music, STEM and information technology, while placing a strong emphasis on well‑being and the development of social skills. The campus boasts a range of modern facilities designed to support diverse learning needs. These include an astro‑turf playground, a basketball pitch, a sensory garden, and an iPad programme, with an interactive whiteboard installed in every classroom. A broad extracurricular programme offers activities such as Sciath na Scol, VEX Robotics, chess, Cycle Sense, Green Schools projects, Junior Entrepreneur challenges and participation in Cork City Sports, ensuring that each child can explore and develop a wide array of interests.

History

Kilmurry National School opened in 1955 with two classrooms forming the original building at the school entrance. In 1982 a substantial extension added three classrooms and a multi‑purpose “Halla”. A further expansion in 2012 provided two large classrooms, a staff room and three smaller classrooms. In September 2022 two prefabricated classrooms were installed as temporary accommodation pending the construction of a three‑classroom autism wing.
