About
Kilteely National School is a small, rural primary school in Kilteely, Co. Limerick, staffed by three teachers. The school prioritises creative and independent learning within an inclusive environment, ensuring that pupils of all abilities and needs are supported. A key feature of the provision is the dedicated ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) Special Class, opened in September 2019, which enables children with ASD to attend their local school and build lasting friendships. The school occupies a historic building that has served as a community hub for more than 130 years. Recent years have seen the school flourish, with plans to expand and develop its teaching facilities and resources. Strong links with local organisations—including the Tidy Towns committee, Kilteely/Dromkeen GAA Club, Handball Club, KDC Community Council and the Hall Committee—enhance extracurricular opportunities such as gymnastics, hurling, and community events, fostering a sense of pride and belonging among pupils and families.
History
The current school building has been at the heart of the Kilteely community for over 130 years. In September 2019 the school opened an ASD Special Class, reflecting its commitment to inclusive education and local provision for children with special educational needs.
