About
Lakeview School is a specialist post‑primary institution with a roll of 76 pupils, providing education for children aged 5 to 18 who have mild learning difficulties and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The school organises its learners into small, age‑ and needs‑based classes, each following a themed curriculum that integrates the national primary curriculum, the Aistear early childhood framework and a bespoke Level 2 Learning Programme for the Junior Cycle. In addition to core academic subjects, Lakeview delivers Level 3 programmes in Woodwork and Home Economics, and a whole‑school functional maths and functional English programme designed to equip students with essential life‑skill competencies. The learning environment is deliberately small and nurturing, allowing staff to give individualised attention and to monitor progress closely. Regular staff, parent‑teacher and parent‑association meetings ensure a collaborative approach to each child’s development, while continuous professional development keeps teaching practices up‑to‑date. Facilities include dedicated workshops for wood technology, a home economics kitchen, and resources that support functional literacy and numeracy, all within a safe, happy setting that celebrates personal achievement and prepares students for successful transition beyond the school.
