About

Scoil Naomh Seosamh, Laragh is a mixed primary school situated on the Bandon‑to‑Newcestown road, about 3 km from Bandon town. Operating under the patronage of the Catholic Bishop of Cork, the school provides education for children from Junior Infants to Sixth Class in a welcoming, community‑focused environment. The curriculum is delivered by a team of seven classroom teachers, supported by 2.5 special educational needs (SEN) teachers and two special needs assistants, ensuring that individual learning needs are met. All classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards, facilitating modern, interactive teaching methods. The school grounds feature two tarmac play areas together with extensive grass spaces, offering safe and varied outdoor recreation. Recent extensions in 2006 and 2011 have expanded the facilities, allowing for contemporary learning spaces and enhanced provision for SEN pupils. A vibrant Parents Association actively organises family events and supports school initiatives, reinforcing the collaborative spirit that underpins the school’s ethos of cooperation and mutual respect.

History

A school has been present in Laragh since 1841. The current building opened in 1967 as a two‑teacher school with 29 pupils on roll. Since then the school has grown to an enrolment of 183 pupils, with extensions added in 2006 and 2011. In 2017 the school celebrated the 50th anniversary of moving to the present building.
