About

Lindsay Road National School is a co‑educational primary school situated on a quiet residential street in Glasnevin, Dublin. The school serves a close‑knit community of around 96 pupils and provides a balanced curriculum that aims to develop each child as a confident learner and a responsible member of society. Under the patronage of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland, the school’s ethos centres on supporting every child to realise their individual potential, encouraging social interaction, and fostering a love of lifelong learning that prepares pupils for future education. The school benefits from a modern learning environment, including an extension opened in September 2016 that added two new mainstream classrooms, two specialised small classrooms for special education, and a dedicated principal’s office. A team of four mainstream teachers, two special‑education teachers and three Special Needs Assistants work together to deliver inclusive teaching, while the school’s facilities also support practical subjects such as cookery and science, reflecting its historic commitment to a broad, hands‑on curriculum.

History

The foundation stone of Lindsay Road National School was laid on 25 June 1910 and the first pupils enrolled on 17 January 1911. Originally established by four Dublin City Presbyterian churches, the school was purpose‑built with electric lighting, hot‑water heating and dedicated rooms for cookery and science. Over the decades it incorporated other local schools, notably the Methodist School on Clonliffe Road in 1945. The centenary was celebrated in 2011 with a visit from President Mary McAleese, and a significant extension was completed in 2016, providing additional classrooms and specialised spaces for special education.
