About
Lisaniskey National School is a rural primary school located approximately 12 km north of Roscommon town, in the townland of Clooneycolgan within the parish of Oran. The school provides education for children from Junior Infants through to Sixth Class, offering a balanced curriculum that blends academic learning with a strong emphasis on personal development and community values. Its ethos highlights collective attitudes, core values and aspirations, fostering a welcoming environment where pupils are encouraged to develop confidence, curiosity and a love of learning. The school operates a well‑structured classroom system comprising five mainstream classes supported by dedicated learning support staff and special needs assistants, ensuring inclusive provision for all learners. Facilities have been progressively upgraded: an additional infant classroom was added in 2010, a permanent learning support/resource building replaced a prefab in 2013, and a comprehensive heating system overhaul was completed in 2014, resulting in a modern, comfortable learning environment. An Active School programme promotes physical education and encourages a physically active community, reinforcing the school’s commitment to holistic child development.
History
Lisaniskey National School has been serving the local community since at least the late 1950s, with records of staff dating back to 1958. Over the decades the school has seen several generations of educators and has undertaken major building projects: a new infant classroom in 2010, the construction of a permanent learning support/resource block in 2013, and a heating system overhaul in the summer of 2014. These developments have modernised the premises while preserving the school’s long‑standing tradition of providing quality primary education in the Clooneycolgan area.
