About

Scoil Mholainge Listerlin is a mixed national school situated in the parish of Tullogher‑Rosbercon, midway between Mullinavat and New Ross on the R704 in County Kilkenny. Under the patronage of the Bishop of Ossory, the school provides education for roughly 150 pupils aged four to thirteen, delivering a firm grounding in the core curriculum while also offering a broad programme that nurtures aesthetic, creative and physical development. The school’s ethos, encapsulated in the motto “Go raibh Sonas ar ár nDaltaí” (that our children may be happy), is reflected in its spacious grounds which include two playing pitches, a hard‑surface area, a hurling wall and a small garden. A purpose‑built room with a removable stage and seating for up to 150 adults serves both physical education and community events. Extra‑curricular provision is extensive, featuring GAA sports (hurling, camogie and Gaelic football), weekly swimming lessons at the APEX leisure centre, a school choir, Irish dancing, regular library visits to New Ross Library and a variety of cultural outings such as drumming, hip‑hop, surfing and theatre trips. A strong child‑protection framework underpins all activities, with a dedicated safeguarding policy and regular whole‑school evaluations ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment for every child.

History

The school is named after St Moling, a seventh‑century saint whose hermitage was at Mullinakill, approximately five kilometres from the present site. This historic link reflects the community’s long‑standing connection to the area and its cultural heritage.
