About

Lucan Community National School is a state‑funded, co‑educational, multi‑denominational primary school operating under the patronage of the Dublin and Dún Laoghaire Education and Training Board. The school provides a full infant‑to‑sixth‑class curriculum and includes two dedicated Autism classes within its Community Special Education (CSE) provision, reflecting a strong commitment to inclusive education. Facilities are housed in a purpose‑built permanent building on Balgaddy Road, opened in 2017, and are equipped to support contemporary learning, including a 1:1 iPad programme for pupils from second to sixth class managed by Wriggle.ie to ensure robust child‑safeguarding and digital literacy. The school’s educational philosophy centres on creating a caring, calm and safe child‑centred environment where every pupil is welcomed, respected and cherished. Its vision promotes a sense of belonging, empathy and respect, while its mission focuses on delivering a 21st‑century learning experience that nurtures academic, social, emotional and spiritual development. Partnerships with parents and the wider community are integral, encouraging collaborative learning and reinforcing the values of diversity, inclusion and independent thinking. With an enrolment of nearly 400 pupils for the 2025/26 academic year, Lucan CNS has grown rapidly since its modest beginnings. The school leverages digital resources such as the Accelerated Reader, MyON Online Library and Freckle, and maintains active communication channels including a notice board, newsletters and a Twitter feed that showcase daily learning experiences.
