Mahoonagh National School is a Roman Catholic primary school situated in Castlemahon, Co. Limerick. The school’s ethos is rooted in the Catholic tradition, seeking to nurture the intellectual, physical, cultural, moral and spiritual development of each pupil. It aims to provide a caring and secure environment where children are motivated, challenged and encouraged to develop a living relationship with God, themselves and others. The curriculum is complemented by a strong emphasis on religious education in line with the doctrines and practices of the Roman Catholic Church. The school offers a broad range of extra‑curricular activities designed to develop pupils’ talents and interests. Sporting provision is extensive and the school participates as an active Flag school, promoting physical activity and wellbeing. It also runs a Green Schools programme, arts and crafts classes, and takes part each year in the Discovery Primary Science and Maths Award, achieving recognition in maths, engineering, technology and science. The SFI Curious Minds initiative further enriches the learning experience through technology, engineering, mathematics and science projects, including dedicated weeks for maths and science. Operating Monday to Friday from 8:50 am to 2:30 pm, Mahoonagh NS provides a structured yet flexible timetable that supports both academic learning and personal growth.
