History

The school, situated at the entrance to Rivermeade estate in the parish of St Canice’s, Finglas, was planned in 1979. Its name, Mary Queen of Ireland, was chosen to commemorate Pope John Paul II’s September 1979 visit to Ireland and the dedication of the new Basilica in Knock, Co Mayo, to Our Lady Queen of Ireland. Mr Joe Crowe was appointed Principal and the school opened on 1 September 1981 (Tuesday) with an initial enrolment of 148 pupils.
