About

Moate Community School is a mixed secondary and further‑education institution serving the town of Moate and its surrounding community. With an enrolment of roughly 1 250 pupils and a staff complement of about 130, the school offers a comprehensive curriculum that includes traditional academic subjects, a robust Transition Year programme and a range of Post‑Leaving Certificate (PLC) courses delivered through Moate Business College. The school’s ethos is built on respect, Christian values and a strong sense of community, aiming to nurture the intellectual, moral, social and physical development of every learner. The campus benefits from an extensive building programme completed in December 2001 and subsequent extensions approved by the Department of Education and Science, providing modern classrooms, specialist laboratories, sports facilities and dedicated spaces for digital learning. A NextGenerationEU grant in 2021 funded the acquisition of iPad trolleys, upgraded IT infrastructure and targeted SEN resources, ensuring that students at risk of educational disadvantage can fully engage with contemporary learning technologies. The school also promotes wellbeing through dedicated pastoral care, a wide variety of extracurricular activities and a supportive environment that encourages student voice and parental partnership.

History

Moate Community School was established on 1 September 1996 following the amalgamation of Convent of Mercy Secondary School, Carmelite College and Moate Vocational School. At its inception the school enrolled approximately 1 250 pupils and employed 130 staff members. An extensive building project was completed in December 2001, and the Department of Education and Science later sanctioned a substantial extension to the facilities. The school’s purpose is to nurture the intellectual, moral, social and physical development of young people within a Christian community ethos.
