About
Mount Talbot National School is a long‑established primary school that combines a rich heritage of over a century of education with contemporary facilities. The historic building has been extensively extended and modernised, providing spacious classrooms equipped with up‑to‑date technology, large playgrounds and playing fields, and dedicated areas for arts, crafts and music. A full‑time special‑education teacher and a part‑time special needs assistant support inclusive learning, while a low pupil‑teacher ratio ensures a caring, nurturing environment that promotes confidence and self‑esteem. The curriculum follows the Irish primary syllabus and is enriched by a wide range of extra‑curricular programmes. Pupils engage in STEM activities such as engineering, Scratch coding workshops and science awards, as well as creative pursuits including tin‑whistle lessons, drama, poetry and baking. The school places a strong emphasis on physical activity, offering hurling, football, rugby, rounders, soccer, gymnastics and annual swimming lessons. Environmental stewardship is highlighted through the Green Schools programme, with the school having earned its seventh Green Flag. The ethos “Ní neart go cur le chéile” (strength in unity) underpins a community‑focused atmosphere that prepares children for successful transition to second‑level education.
History
The school’s premises have been used for education for more than 100 years. Over that time the original building has been repeatedly extended and modernised to meet contemporary educational standards, resulting in the current blend of historic character and modern facilities.
