About
St. Peter Apostle Junior National School is a vibrant primary school situated in the Letts Field area of Neilstown, Clondalkin (D22 AK09). The school serves a community of roughly 284 pupils across 15 mainstream classes, three specialised classes in the Butterfly Suite for children on the autism spectrum, and Early Start classes for younger learners. A dedicated team of teaching and support staff creates a nurturing environment that promotes equality of opportunity, encouraging each child to reach their academic potential while developing confidence, kindness and respect. The school’s educational philosophy centres on an inclusive, caring and stimulating atmosphere that supports children’s social, emotional, spiritual and intellectual growth. A wide range of learning experiences are offered to develop interests, talents and hobbies, and the curriculum is enriched by participation in Green Schools and Active Schools initiatives. Facilities include a large hall, a sensory room, an occupational‑therapy room, showers, a kitchen and spacious classrooms within the Butterfly Suite, as well as modern classrooms for mainstream teaching. Excellent transport links via the 40 and 76 bus routes and proximity to the Liffey Valley Shopping Centre make the school easily accessible for families.
History
The area of Neilstown was a small part of Clondalkin in the early 20th century, with the school and church not existing until the late 1970s. St. Peter Apostle National School was founded in 1977, initially operating without its own premises and using rented classrooms in Kilnamanagh. Construction of a dedicated junior school began in early 1978 and the school moved into its new building later that year. In 1979 a senior school opened beside the junior school, each with its own principal. A Home/School/Community Liaison role was created to strengthen community ties. In 2001 a new principal was appointed to the junior school, further promoting cooperation between the two schools. In recent years the school has embraced initiatives such as Green Schools and Active Schools, reflecting its commitment to environmental and holistic education.
