About
Oola National School is a mixed Roman Catholic primary school located in the village of Oola, Co. Limerick, on the N24 between Limerick and Waterford. The school serves a community of 69 pupils and is staffed by six teachers, three support teachers, three special‑needs assistants and a secretary. The curriculum places a strong emphasis on high standards of literacy and numeracy, supported by a well‑planned delivery model and a range of resources that cater to individual needs. A positive partnership with parents underpins the school’s ethos of welcoming every child in a caring, nurturing environment that promotes self‑esteem and recognises each pupil’s individuality. The school benefits from modern facilities, including a recently refurbished building (2008) with a new classroom and a spacious hall equipped for a full P.E. programme. Each classroom contains an interactive whiteboard, Chromebooks and tablets, and the school holds Digital School status. A well‑stocked library, a fully equipped art room, and a book‑rental scheme further enrich learning. Extra‑curricular provision is extensive, with hurling, football, basketball, swimming and quiz teams, regular concerts, and participation in initiatives such as Green Flag, Active Flag, Aistear, Literacy Lift‑Off, Irish Aid Awards and Food Dudes.
History
Oola National School was built in 1941. A major refurbishment was completed in 2008, which renovated the existing school and added a new classroom and school hall, modernising the facilities while retaining the school’s historic roots.
