About
Our Lady of Consolation National School is a mixed‑gender Catholic primary school situated in Donnycarney, Dublin 5. It caters for junior infants to 1st class for both boys and girls, and for girls from 2nd to 6th class. A distinctive feature of the school is its five Autistic Spectrum (AS) classes, four of which are specialised, providing an inclusive setting where children on the spectrum are integrated into mainstream classes wherever possible. The school’s ethos is rooted in Catholic values under the patronage of the Archbishop of Dublin, while also embracing diversity and encouraging active parental involvement in school life. The educational approach prioritises small class sizes – sometimes as low as a 14:1 pupil‑teacher ratio – and a broad range of learning support strategies. Dedicated Maths and Reading Recovery teachers, alongside team‑teaching, station‑teaching and Maths Blast programmes, ensure that each child can work at a pace suited to their individual needs. Modern technology is woven into daily learning, with class sets of Chromebooks and iPads, and specialised resources such as assistive communication tools and a sensory‑rich playroom. Facilities at the school support a holistic development of pupils. These include two playgrounds, a large hall with a stage, an all‑weather pitch accessed via the local GAA club, and a spacious yard. Additional amenities such as a parents’ room, after‑school provision and a range of sports and extracurricular programmes further reinforce the school’s commitment to a caring, community‑linked environment.
