About
Our Lady of Mercy Junior School, Kells is a Roman Catholic junior school that delivers a holistic, child‑centred education for pupils from Junior Infants to Second Class. The school’s ethos is rooted in the Mercy philosophy inspired by Catherine McAuley, emphasising the full and harmonious development of each child – intellectually, physically, culturally, morally and spiritually – within a caring, respectful and joyful environment. A strong partnership with parents and the wider community underpins the school’s commitment to Christian values and inclusive practice, particularly for children who are disadvantaged or marginalised. Learning at the school is active and experiential. Classrooms are equipped for hands‑on projects such as 3D‑shape investigations with toothpicks and marshmallows, LEGO League challenges, and maths trails during maths week. Creative pursuits are encouraged, exemplified by recent art competition successes and seasonal activities like Christmas card exchanges. The school provides a range of dedicated rooms for each year group (Junior Infants, Senior Infants, First and Second Class) and utilises a variety of resources to support a vibrant, inquiry‑driven curriculum.
