About

Our Lady’s School, Templeogue, is a Catholic secondary school for girls that blends a strong academic focus with a holistic approach to personal development. Guided by four pillars – empowerment, academic excellence, wellbeing and community – the school aims to enable each pupil to reach her full potential. A health‑promoting ethos underpins a well‑structured Physical Education programme and a wide range of extra‑curricular activities, encouraging active lifestyles and social responsibility. The campus provides a modern learning environment with extensive facilities. In addition to standard classrooms, there are three computer rooms, three collaborative project rooms, five science laboratories, three Home Economics kitchens and two learning support rooms. The award‑winning library, two music rooms, two art rooms, a lecture theatre, an oratory and two multi‑purpose halls support a diverse curriculum. Sporting amenities include a sports hall, gym area, astro‑turf hockey pitch and access to the neighbouring Bushy Park, while outdoor spaces feature landscaped green areas, picnic tables, a raised garden created by Transition Year students and an Active Schools Flag walkway to promote walking and fresh air.

History

The school’s origins trace back to 1817 when Fr Louis Lafosse founded a religious order dedicated to educating young women in France. The Sisters of Christian Education, following his vision of academic excellence and whole‑person development, expanded internationally and were invited to Ireland by Archbishop Dr Charles McQuaid in 1951. After acquiring Bushy Park House, the Sisters opened Our Lady’s School, Terenure, in 1953. Since then the school has grown, with two major extensions to the original building, the latest completed in 2011, providing additional classroom space and updated technological facilities.
