About
Scoil Mhuire National School, Pallaskenry is a co‑educational primary school that serves the village of Pallaskenry, Co. Limerick. The school provides an inclusive and supportive learning environment designed to nurture each pupil’s potential and encourage a lively, enquiring mind. Central to its ethos is a commitment to the wellbeing and mental health of children, recognised by the recent Amber Flag award for excellence in promoting positive wellbeing. The school operates six mainstream classes together with two dedicated autism classes, supported by a team of teaching staff, special needs assistants and a dedicated secretary. Modern facilities include a well‑stocked library, a purpose‑built P.E. hall, resource rooms, a garden shed for outdoor learning, and a newly constructed entrance with ample car‑parking. From first to sixth class every child benefits from a 1:1 Chromebook scheme, integrating digital resources into daily lessons and enhancing interactive learning. The school’s curriculum is underpinned by a mission to provide an inclusive, supportive environment that stimulates curiosity and encourages pupils to play a pivotal role in their communities. A strong partnership with parents, the local community and the Board of Management underpins the school’s holistic approach to education.
History
Scoil Mhuire, Pallaskenry opened in January 1977 with four classrooms, a G.P. room, three teachers and seventy pupils. In 1983, following the development of the Cluain Mhuire housing estate, enrolment rose to 229 and three prefabricated classrooms were added to accommodate the growth. A major extension was completed in 2005, providing two new classrooms, two resource rooms, a library, a garden shed, a boiler house and a new P.E. hall; existing classrooms were renovated, a new roof installed, and a new entrance with car‑parking facilities was created.
