About
Presentation Primary School in Terenure is an all‑girls primary school on the south‑side of Dublin serving roughly 400 pupils with a dedicated team of staff, including special education provision. The school operates 17 mainstream classes and a dedicated Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) class, fostering an inclusive environment that promotes confidence, independence and respect. Its educational ethos is centred on nurturing each child’s full potential in a caring, secure setting, with a strong emphasis on spiritual fulfilment, social and moral development, and good citizenship. The school offers a broad range of extra‑curricular activities such as GAA, tennis, hockey, cricket coaching, cycle‑safety training, a Junior Entrepreneur programme and regular trips to cultural sites. Facilities have evolved from the original coach house and stable classrooms of the 19th century to a modern two‑storey red‑brick building with multiple extensions, providing ample classroom space and specialised areas for special education. A robust anti‑bullying policy, the Aladdin parent‑communication system and a clear uniform code support a safe, supportive learning community.
History
The Presentation Order was founded by Nano Nagle in the 18th century. Presentation Sisters arrived in Terenure on 24 September 1866, initially using the coach house and stables of Netherby as classrooms. A purpose‑built red‑brick school opened in 1889, with a large wing added in 1939. Today the school occupies a modern primary school building that accommodates approximately 500 pupils, continuing the legacy of Nano Nagle’s commitment to education and service to the poor.
