About
Raheen National School is a small rural primary school situated in Headford, 12 kilometres from Killarney, in the parish of Glenflesk at the heart of Sliabh Luachra. As a co‑educational Catholic school, it provides a happy, secure environment where effective teaching and learning take place within a clearly defined Catholic ethos. The school serves a close‑knit community of around 37 pupils and places a strong emphasis on the holistic development of each child, fostering academic progress alongside moral, spiritual and social growth. The school’s facilities include three dedicated classrooms, a multipurpose hall, a learning support room, a kitchenette, a secretary’s office and a staff room. A third classroom is shared with a community playgroup, and the outdoor provision comprises a tarmacadam play area, a junior playground and a grass pitch. Teaching provision is bolstered by three teachers, two Special Needs Assistants and a part‑time secretary/caretaker, with additional special‑education support provided through a cluster arrangement with Coolick National School. An active Parents’ Association contributes to the upkeep of the premises and enriches the pupil experience, while the school day runs from 9.00 am to 2.40 pm with scheduled lunch breaks.
