Redeemer Girls National School is a vibrant primary school situated in Ard Easmuinn, Dundalk, County Louth. It operates under DEIS (Delivering Equality of Opportunity in Schools) status, providing a supportive, inclusive environment for children from early years through to the end of primary education. The school runs a well‑established Early Start preschool programme for three‑ to five‑year‑olds, a Multiple Disabilities class that has been part of the community for over two decades, and, from September 2024, two Early Intervention Autism classes and two school‑age Autism classes, reflecting a strong commitment to special educational needs. The curriculum is enriched by a long‑standing musical tradition, with ensembles and the annual Séinn concert fostering creative expression and community spirit. Facilities include dedicated spaces for the Early Start and special‑needs classes, as well as areas for music, sport and outdoor play. The school’s ethos combines academic rigour with faith‑based values, preparing pupils for the sacraments of First Penance, Holy Communion and Confirmation while encouraging personal growth and social responsibility.
History
Redeemer Girls School was founded in 1965 under the Sisters of Mercy. Following the completion of the Church of the Holy Redeemer in 1969, a permanent school building was erected in Ard Easmuinn in 1971, and the school moved from Marion Park on 1 September 1971 with 275 pupils. Rapid growth soon required a physical expansion. The school has always worked closely with the parish, sharing in the sacraments and community events, and has been at the forefront of Irish educational innovation – establishing one of the first special classes attached to a mainstream school, one of only two Early Start preschool programmes in County Louth, and joining the DEIS initiative. A rich musical heritage, begun by Fr Mc Nally, continues today through the Music Generation programme and the Redeemer School Ensemble, with the annual Séinn concert highlighting the school’s cultural contribution.
