About
Rehins National School is a mixed Catholic primary school situated on the outskirts of Ballina, County Mayo. The school prides itself on an inclusive, warm community where every child is encouraged to thrive academically, socially and personally. A key feature is the dedicated Autism Spectrum Disorder unit, which includes a state‑of‑the‑art sensory room, quiet rooms, a nurturing space and a fully equipped kitchen, ensuring that pupils with additional needs receive tailored support in a calm environment. The curriculum is underpinned by a strong emphasis on technology and STEM. Each pupil has access to a G Suite account and the school maintains a fleet of over 60 Chromebooks, enabling the integration of film‑making, artificial intelligence, robotics and 3D‑printing into everyday learning. Physical education follows the PDST “Move Well, Move Often” programme and is delivered across an astro‑pitch, multiple outdoor play areas, a school garden and a polytunnel, promoting physical literacy and environmental awareness. A vibrant arts programme, ranging from choir and tin whistle to chess and visual arts, further enriches the holistic development of students.
History
Rehins National School participated in the national Dúchas folklore collection between 1937 and 1939, contributing 90 entries that were digitised and made available online. Under the guidance of teacher Mártín Ó Longáin, pupils compiled approximately 740 000 pages of folklore, including 192 pages of original copy‑book material, providing a valuable link to the local history and traditions of the 1930s.
