About
Cuilmore National School (Scoil Náisiúnta an Coill Mhór) is a small, rural primary school situated in a scenic location just off the main road between Newport, Westport and Castlebar, with views of Croagh Patrick. The school offers spacious, modern classrooms and a large, well‑equipped playground that includes a vegetable garden, mud pits and a variety of outdoor learning spaces. All pupils have access to computers and other technology, supporting a contemporary curriculum that balances literacy and numeracy with a strong emphasis on STEM, music, swimming, gymnastics and GAA sports. The ethos centres on the full and harmonious development of each child, promoting a healthy, active body as the foundation for a healthy, active mind. A wide range of extracurricular activities – from science and art competitions to guest‑speaker sessions with marine biologists and local artists – enriches the learning experience. Small class sizes, high levels of support for children with additional needs and strong community links create a warm, family‑like atmosphere where every learner is encouraged to reach their full potential.
