About
St Martin’s National School is a Catholic, co‑educational primary school situated in the rural setting of Brittas, Co. Dublin, just off the N81 between Saggart and Blessington. It caters for boys and girls aged 4 to 13 years, from Junior Infants through to 6th class. Although small, the school offers a vibrant learning environment with a balanced curriculum that includes core academic subjects, a dedicated music programme, physical education, and a range of after‑school activities. The school’s ethos is built on a mission to create a safe, happy and caring atmosphere where pupils can reach their academic potential and develop into responsible, independent citizens. The school benefits from a range of facilities that have developed over time: the original two‑classroom building (1959) was expanded in 1980 with an additional classroom and purpose room, a prefabricated unit was added in 1996 and a further classroom was completed in July 2013. Staffing includes teachers for each class, a special education teacher, special needs assistants and additional support staff such as music and PE teachers, ensuring personalised support for all learners. Extra‑curricular provision, including Gaelic, traditional music and knitting activities, further enriches pupils’ cultural and physical development.
History
Established in 1959, St Martin’s opened as a two‑classroom school and quickly became an integral part of the Brittas community. A major extension in 1980 added an extra classroom and a purpose room. In 1996 a prefabricated unit was purchased to accommodate growing enrolments, and a further classroom was added in July 2013, reflecting the school’s ongoing commitment to providing suitable facilities for its pupils.
