About
Roxboro National School, Scoil Náisiúnta Ceathrú an Chlochar, is a Catholic co‑educational primary school under the patronage of Archbishop Francis Duffy. Situated approximately 5.5 km from Ballinrobe on the edge of Lough Cara, the school enjoys a tranquil rural setting surrounded by the Roxboro countryside and close to the local racecourse. The campus combines a modern building, opened in 2007, with the historic 1887 structure, providing spacious classrooms, specialist facilities and ample outdoor areas that support a broad curriculum and extracurricular activities. The school’s ethos centres on the holistic development of each child, nurturing intellectual, physical, cultural, moral and spiritual growth in line with Catholic teachings. A strong partnership between the Board of Management, the Home/School Association and parents underpins a supportive learning community where pupils are encouraged to achieve competence in reading, writing and numeracy, develop a love of learning and deepen their faith while feeling safe, included and happy.
History
Roxboro National School was originally built in 1887, establishing a long tradition of primary education in the Ballinrobe area. In 2007 the school relocated to a new, purpose‑built facility that incorporates the original 19th‑century building, blending historic character with contemporary classrooms and amenities. Since the move, enrolment numbers have continued to rise, reflecting the school’s reputation for quality education.
