About
Scoil Charthaigh Naofa is a co‑educational Catholic national primary school serving children from junior infants to sixth class. The school follows the revised Irish National Curriculum, delivering a broad programme of learning across all subjects while embedding the Presentation Order’s ethos of care, respect and community. A strong emphasis is placed on the holistic development of pupils, with provision for spiritual, intellectual, physical, moral, emotional and cultural growth. The school operates a dedicated preschool (Mochuda ASD Preschool) and benefits from a range of facilities, including a gymnasium used for supervised arrival and dismissal, and spaces for a variety of extra‑curricular activities. The school offers an extensive extra‑curricular programme that includes traditional Irish sports such as hurling, camogie, Gaelic football and tag rugby, as well as basketball, choir, drama, Irish dancing, musical instruments, athletics and quiz competitions. Scoil Charthaigh Naofa is a Green Flag school, actively participating in the Green Schools programme and promoting environmental awareness. The Free Books Scheme ensures that all required textbooks, workbooks and copybooks are provided to pupils at no cost. A well‑structured daily routine sees tuition begin at 9.20 am, with infants dismissed at 2.00 pm and other classes at 3.00 pm. The school maintains clear visitor protocols, a mobile‑phone ban on premises, and a supportive community ethos that encourages parental involvement through the Parents Association and regular communication.
History
Scoil Charthaigh Naofa was established in September 2007 through the amalgamation of two historic schools: Scoil Charthaigh Naofa Rahan (Boys), founded in 1832, and St Joseph’s Girls Presentation National School Killina, founded in 1812. The new co‑educational Catholic national school continues the legacy of the Presentation Order and its long‑standing contribution to education in Rahan.
