About
Drummin National School (S N Coill Mor) is a small rural primary school situated in the scenic village of Drummin, near Westport in County Mayo. Set within a historic building dating from 1936, the school benefits from recent refurbishments that have added a modern classroom and a landscaped playground featuring picnic benches, a vegetable garden and an insect hotel. The expansive grounds are bordered by rolling hills and native woodlands, providing an outdoor classroom where pupils can engage with nature, feed birds and even encounter occasional farm animals. The school adopts an inclusive, whole‑child approach, fostering personal talents and interests alongside the national curriculum. A low pupil‑to‑teacher ratio ensures individual attention, while a varied programme offers music (tin whistle and ukulele), mindfulness, yoga, meditation, art, table‑tennis, science experiments and environmental projects such as the “Incredible Edibles” garden. As a Green School, Drummin NS is pursuing the Amber Flag initiative and runs weekly “Wellness Wednesday” sessions to promote positive mental health and wellbeing. Recent upgrades include a newly renovated multipurpose room that supports drama, art, music, physical education and reading activities.
