About
Scoil Naomh Bhríde is a Catholic primary school that prides itself on providing a nurturing, inclusive environment where every child is regarded as a valued member of God’s family. The school’s ethos centres on high‑quality Catholic education, fostering good behaviour, respect and a love of learning across the full primary curriculum. Children are encouraged to develop confidence, resilience and inquisitiveness, with a strong emphasis on personal growth and spiritual development. The purpose‑built premises, opened in 2009, offer modern learning spaces including three classrooms equipped with interactive whiteboards and tablets, an ICT suite, a well‑stocked library, a resource room and a dedicated assembly area. The building is fully wheelchair‑accessible and provides specialised toileting facilities and equipment to support pupils with special educational needs, promoting integration and inclusion. Outdoor facilities feature a basketball/cúili court, a soccer pitch, a newly‑installed astro‑turf pitch and a soft‑play area, supporting physical development and teamwork. The school day runs from 9.20 am to 3.00 pm, with structured break times, and the uniform consists of a maroon jumper, white polo shirt and grey trousers or skirt.
History
The original national school at Drumslide village was granted on 8 October 1867 and opened on 12 May 1869, initially comprising two rooms, a toilet, eight windows and a slated roof. It remained in use until 1945 when a second school was built nearby. A new school building was approved by the Department of Education and Skills in 2006, construction began in October 2008, and the building was blessed by Bishop John Fleming on 30 August 2009 before opening to pupils on 31 August 2009. Scoil Naomh Bhríde was officially opened by Taoiseach Enda Kenny on 13 May 2011.
