About
Scoil Náisiúnta Mhuire, Rathpeacon N.S. is a co‑educational national school situated on Mallow Road in Cork. The school provides a welcoming environment for children from the local community, guided by its motto *Spreag an Óige* – “encourage the young”. A strong emphasis is placed on inclusive education, with mainstream classrooms complemented by dedicated learning‑support and special‑educational‑needs (SEN) rooms, a sensory room and a range of extracurricular activities designed to inspire curiosity and personal growth. The modern campus, completed in 2003, originally offered seven mainstream classrooms, a large sports hall, a spacious yard and specialist support spaces. Responding to growing enrolments, a two‑storey four‑classroom extension was added in 2012/13, followed by a third building housing three additional classrooms and two further SEN rooms. These facilities enable the school to cater for a diverse pupil body, offering both academic instruction and a broad programme of sport, arts and community‑based projects within a safe, well‑resourced setting.
History
Rathpeacon National School was first erected in 1943 on a site adjacent to the present building. In 2002 construction began on a new, modern school building which was completed in 2003, with pupils moving in on 1 October 2003. The school initially comprised seven mainstream classrooms, learning‑support/resource rooms, a large sports hall, a sensory room and a sizeable yard. A two‑storey, four‑classroom extension was added during the 2012/2013 academic year and occupied in September 2013. Subsequent growth led to a third building containing three classrooms and two SEN rooms, reflecting the school’s ongoing expansion.
