About
Scoil Mhuire Navan is a co‑educational Catholic primary school situated in the centre of Navan town. It welcomes pupils from Junior Infants to Sixth Class, including children from 29 different nationalities and members of the Travelling Community, fostering an atmosphere of mutual respect and inclusivity. The school follows a mixed‑ability model, with flexible grouping within each class to allow individual progress, and places a strong emphasis on Christian values, moral development and the holistic growth of each child – intellectually, physically, socially and spiritually. The campus is spacious and secure, featuring two large tarmac‑adamant playgrounds, a green front area and two assembly halls (one for the junior and one for the senior section). Academic facilities include a fully equipped computer room with fifteen networked PCs, multiple resource rooms, and well‑appointed classrooms with adjoining wet areas for art activities. An on‑site autistic unit, established in 1999, provides specialised support while integrating many students into mainstream classes. A secure entry system, perimeter fence and ample car parking ensure safety for pupils and staff alike, while an active Parents’ Association and Board of Management encourage community involvement in school life.
History
The De La Salle Brothers founded the first school in Navan in 1917, later moving to the present senior site in 1957. After the brothers departed in 1976, the school has been staffed by lay teachers. Responding to town growth, the junior section opened in 1975, expanding the school to cater for boys and girls from Junior Infants through Sixth Class. Over the decades, thousands of pupils have been educated at Scoil Mhuire, and the school proudly acknowledges its notable alumni.
