About
Scoil Mhuire Carlanstown is a mixed, co‑educational Catholic primary school situated in the centre of Carlanstown village, near Kells in County Meath. The school serves around 160 pupils and provides a supportive learning environment that values partnership between home and school, mutual respect and the holistic development of every child. Its curriculum is guided by a commitment to nurture moral, social, emotional and academic potential, while embracing the diversity of modern Irish society and the Catholic ethos that underpins the community. The school’s facilities include eight mainstream classrooms, a dedicated special‑education room, a sensory room, a purpose‑built P.E. hall, a basketball court and a football pitch. Specialist support is available through three Special Needs Assistants in mainstream classes and four in the Early Intervention (ASD) “Little Stars” classes, reflecting a strong inclusive ethos. Emphasis is placed on balanced healthy lifestyles, cultural appreciation and the development of confident, responsible citizens, with a focus on well‑being, emotional resilience and active parental involvement.
History
The school has expanded its provision in recent years, welcoming a sixth mainstream teacher in September 2021 as enrolments grew. In September 2022 the “Little Stars” Early Intervention ASD classes were opened, and in February 2022 the Department of Education granted an extension to add two Early Intervention rooms, a SEN base and three new classrooms to replace existing prefabs. These developments reflect a steady growth and commitment to inclusive education.
