About

Lismullen National School is a vibrant primary school located just outside Navan in County Meath. The school provides a holistic, child‑centred education that balances academic learning with the social, emotional and physical development of each pupil. A dedicated team of teachers, special‑needs assistants, administrative staff and a caretaker work together to create a supportive and inclusive environment where children are encouraged to explore, question and develop confidence. The campus currently comprises four permanent classrooms in the main building together with eight prefabricated units, offering flexible space for a range of classroom activities and small‑group learning. An upcoming new school building, approved by the Department of Education and Skills and now in the design stage, will further enhance the facilities with modern learning spaces. The school maintains strong links with the local community, regularly updating families on classroom events, extracurricular activities and school‑wide initiatives through its website and social media channels.

History

Lismullen National School was established in 1957 to replace two ageing rural schools, Dillon’s Bridge and Walterstown, by providing a centrally‑located site midway between the two communities. The land was purchased from a local farmer for £50 and the school was constructed by Boyle Building Contractors. At its opening, the register listed 111 pupils drawn from the two predecessor schools. Over the decades the school has grown and evolved, celebrating milestones such as the design of its crest by a pupil in 1996, which incorporates a historic mill, the local Rath Lugh fort and the Augustinian priory that gave the school its Irish name, Scoil na Tríonóide Naofa.
