About
Scoil Cholmcille, known locally as Mount Hanover National School, is a small Roman Catholic primary school situated in a rural setting midway between Drogheda and Duleek, County Meath. The school’s ethos centres on the holistic development of each pupil, fostering physical, intellectual, cultural, moral and spiritual growth while encouraging a living relationship with God and the wider community. Teaching is delivered through a blend of traditional classroom learning and a range of enrichment programmes, including the Blue Star initiative on European Union awareness, the Claret & Gold futsal partnership with Drogheda United, and active participation in Gaelic games, soccer, rounders and basketball. The campus comprises four mainstream classrooms, a dedicated special‑education room, a general‑purpose room added in 2015/16 and ample car‑parking facilities. Each class benefits from its own well‑stocked library, and the school maintains a garden, a green‑schools programme, and an Aistear early‑years framework. Additional initiatives such as Healthy Schools, Creative Schools and the Active School Flag underline a commitment to wellbeing, creativity and environmental stewardship. An online payment system supports book‑rental and arts‑and‑craft fees, simplifying parental administration.
History
The original Scoil Cholmcille dates from 1897; the original building now serves as a private house. The current school building was erected in 1961 as a two‑teacher school. It was refurbished and extended in 2005/2006, adding four mainstream classrooms and a special‑education room. A General Purpose Room and new car‑parking facilities were constructed during the 2015/2016 school year.
