About
Scoil an Spioraid Naoimh Cailíní is an all‑girls, mainstream primary school situated in the heart of Bishopstown, Cork. The school prides itself on providing a vibrant, inclusive and caring community where every pupil is valued and encouraged to reach her full potential. A strong emphasis is placed on fostering a love of learning alongside the development of kindness, respect and personal confidence, ensuring that academic progress is balanced with social and emotional growth. The campus includes modern classrooms and a multi‑purpose hall, added in 2002, which is shared with the neighbouring boys’ school and supports a wide range of sporting, cultural and extracurricular activities. The school’s ethos promotes a supportive environment that nurtures each child’s individuality while preparing them for the next stage of education.
History
The school opened its doors on 15 October 1964 with 18 girls and 16 boys attending classes in prefabricated buildings located within the present Curraheen Road gates. Bean Uí Ríordán served as the first principal, overseeing the mixed‑gender class. In 1965 the school expanded, appointing Mr Con Byrnes as principal of the boys’ school while Bean Uí Ríordán continued as principal of the girls’ school; both schools moved into the buildings still in use today. A new multi‑purpose hall was added in 2002, shared between the two schools. Since its inception, Scoil an Spioraid Naoimh has been recognised as a place where children feel secure and their self‑esteem is nurtured.
