About
Scoil Aonghusa Mallow Community National School is a multi‑denominational, state‑supported primary school that embraces a child‑centred and inclusive ethos. The school provides a holistic education that nurtures the physical, academic, social, emotional and spiritual development of each pupil, drawing on the Irish Primary School Curriculum and a range of Department of Education initiatives such as Aistear, Literacy Lift‑Off, Ready Set Maths, Jolly Phonics, Scratch programming and the Building Bridges of Understanding programme. A strong emphasis is placed on diversity, respect for all faiths and belief systems, and the creation of a supportive, caring community where every child is valued. Since moving into a purpose‑built campus in January 2018, the school benefits from eight spacious classrooms, dedicated support and special‑needs rooms, a full‑size sports hall, library, sensory room, outdoor basketball court and a secure play area. The facilities underpin a vibrant learning environment that promotes excellence; the school has been awarded the STEM Plaque of Excellence annually since 2017 and actively participates in Health‑Promoting Schools, Active Schools and Green Schools programmes. Uniforms are simple and colour‑coordinated, reinforcing a sense of belonging while pupils engage in a wide range of extracurricular activities, from STEM week to chess and biodiversity projects.
History
Mallow Community National School was the first Community National School (CNS) to open in Munster. The CNS model began in 2008 with schools in Phibblestown and Porterstown, Co. Dublin, and has since expanded to locations such as Carrigtwohill, Killarney, Naas, Navan, Balbriggan, Citywest, Dublin 24 and Lucan. Mallow CNS is one of two new CNS establishments in County Cork, and further schools are planned for the coming years.
