About

Scoil Bhríde, Loreto is a co‑educational Catholic primary school situated in a pleasant rural setting just two miles from Killarney town. It caters for around 125 pupils and places a strong emphasis on holistic development, fostering a safe, caring and positive environment where children can reach their full potential. The school’s ethos promotes respect, kindness, tolerance and responsibility, encouraging learners to become confident, independent citizens who value lifelong learning. The campus comprises six classrooms, a dedicated office, a learning support room, a library/computer room and a spacious hall. Outdoor facilities include a large hard‑surface play area, extensive playing pitches and well‑equipped PE resources, all set against the backdrop of the Mangerton and Torc Mountains. Bluebells Preschool operates within the same building, providing early years provision and after‑school services. The curriculum balances literacy, numeracy and Gaeilge with a rich programme of sport, music, art and scientific enquiry, supported by regular field trips and community‑based activities.

History

The Loreto Sisters first arrived in Killarney in 1860, laying the foundations for the school’s tradition of Catholic education. The present Scoil Bhríde building was constructed in 1978 and underwent a significant renovation and extension in 2008, enhancing its facilities while retaining its community‑focused ethos.
