About

Scoil Bhríde is a Catholic primary school situated on the N61, about 10 km north of Roscommon town, serving the Fourmilehouse community. The school embraces a holistic educational philosophy, seeking to develop each child's spiritual, intellectual, artistic, physical, emotional and social potential. A broad, balanced curriculum is delivered within a caring environment that encourages pupils to “be the best that you can be” and to recognise and achieve their full talents. The campus benefits from extensive outdoor facilities, including two large tarmac yards (one with basketball nets), a full‑size juvenile football pitch, a state‑of‑the‑art 40 m × 25 m astro‑turf pitch, a handball alley, a shelter, and a well‑equipped garden featuring a polytunnel, raised beds, a bug hotel and a newly developed sensory garden. Classrooms and the purpose room are fitted with interactive flat‑screen displays, and a suite of 18 laptops and 12 iPads is available for all classes. Additional resources include a library, a kitchen, and easy access to the nearby community centre for PE and drama activities. Regular events such as Grandparents’ Day, Communion, Confirmation, Sports Day and handball competitions enrich the school life and foster strong community ties.

History

Scoil Bhríde was formed through the amalgamation of three former national schools—Aughnaderry NS, Ballinderry NS and Carnalasson NS. In 1980 Aughnaderry and Ballinderry merged under the leadership of Mrs Margaret Geraghty. The amalgamation was completed in January 1987 when Carnalasson NS joined, creating Scoil Bhríde and prompting the opening of a new school on the present site, with Mrs Mary Coyle appointed as the first principal. Subsequent developments added a shelter and a handball alley, and in 2017 the school was extended to include a special‑education room and additional toilet facilities.
