About
St Brigid’s Girls’ National School (Scoil Bhríde) is a large, all‑girl primary school situated in Palmerstown, Dublin 20. It serves roughly 345 pupils across 15 mainstream classes from Junior Infants to Sixth Class, plus an additional Autism Support (AS) class called “The Orchard”. The school places a strong emphasis on creating a happy, holistic learning environment in partnership with parents and guardians, fostering both academic success and personal development. A modern, well‑equipped computer room, a dedicated school hall, and recent major refurbishments provide contemporary facilities that support a wide range of curricular and extracurricular activities. The school’s ethos is underpinned by a commitment to wellbeing, environmental responsibility and inclusive education. A Green Schools Committee runs a Deposit Return Scheme to recycle bottles and cans, raising funds for school improvements. The Wellbeing Committee promotes kindness and positive mental health, exemplified by the “Kindness Tree” and a series of monthly positive affirmations displayed throughout the year. Dedicated Special Educational Needs (SET) staff and seven Special Needs Assistants ensure that pupils with additional needs receive appropriate support, reinforcing the school’s inclusive ethos.
History
St Brigid’s originated as a mixed national school located in the present Parish Centre. In 1950 the school moved to its current site on Turret Road and was divided into St Philomena’s Boys’ School and St Philomena’s Girls’ School. Following the construction of a new boys’ school (St Lorcan’s) the girls’ school was renamed St Brigid’s in 1966 and has since served the daughters of Palmerstown and surrounding areas.
