About
Scoil Chaitríona Senior is a co‑educational Catholic primary school that provides a caring, secure and happy atmosphere for children to develop intellectually, physically, spiritually, morally and emotionally. The curriculum is enriched by a wide range of extracurricular activities, including art, athletics, music, choir, draughts, Gaelic games, Green Schools projects, technology, quizzes and swimming, all delivered within a spirit of friendship, co‑operation and community. Facilities support these programmes, with dedicated spaces for a library, music band, sports and outdoor learning, as well as access to local resources such as the nearby Aillwee Caves and Merlin Woods for field trips. The school’s educational approach emphasises individual strengths and talents, encouraging each pupil to realise their potential through experienced and dedicated staff. Partnerships with parents and the wider community are central, fostering fundraising, cultural events and collaborative projects that enhance the learning environment and reinforce the school’s long‑standing tradition of excellence.
History
Scoil Chaitríona Senior opened on 1 July 1974 with 114 pupils, initially housed in the junior school while its own building was completed. The school moved into its new premises on 1 July 1975; the official opening was performed by the Minister for Education, Richard Burke T.D., and the complex was blessed by Bishop Michael Browne on 26 September 1975. The school was founded as part of the Parish of Renmore, established in 1971, and has been led by a succession of principals since its first head, Pádraig O’Grady (1974‑1993).
