About

Scoil Chaoimhín Naofa Hollywood National School is a Catholic primary school situated in the scenic hills of County Wicklow, just off the N81 at Hollywood Cross. The school’s ethos centres on a supportive, Christian‑based environment where prayer forms part of the daily routine and pupils are prepared for the sacraments of First Confession, First Holy Communion and Confirmation. A strong emphasis is placed on the full and harmonious development of each child – academically, socially, spiritually and environmentally – fostering self‑esteem, respect for diversity and a caring attitude towards the community and the natural world. The campus comprises six modern classrooms, a multipurpose hall, a dedicated computer room and resource rooms, together with a purpose‑built sensory corridor that supports inclusive learning. Outdoor facilities include mature horse‑chestnut trees, a wild‑flower garden, a vegetable plot and a herbaceous border, all maintained by the pupils as part of their environmental education. A wide range of extracurricular activities – from sports such as GAA and cross‑country to music, drama and engineering weeks – enriches the curriculum and encourages creativity, teamwork and physical wellbeing.

History

The school opened in 1955 as a two‑teacher national school, replacing an earlier hall‑based schoolhouse and featuring state‑of‑the‑art electric lighting, heating and flushing toilets for its time. An extension in 1982 increased the number of classrooms to four. In 2005 extensive building works added two further classrooms, a multipurpose hall, a computer room and additional resource rooms, bringing the total to six. A further extension completed in 2013 provided two more classrooms, including an upstairs classroom, designed to complement the original 1955 architecture while meeting modern environmental standards. Over the years the school grounds have been enhanced with indigenous trees, a wild‑flower garden, a vegetable plot and a herbaceous border, supporting hands‑on learning and biodiversity.
