About

Scoil Chaoimhín Naofa is a co‑educational Catholic primary school set in the picturesque Glendalough valley near Laragh, County Wicklow. The school provides a welcoming, inclusive environment where children are encouraged to develop a love of learning, respect for others and an appreciation of the natural world. Its educational philosophy is child‑centred, aiming to nurture each pupil intellectually, morally, spiritually, socially, physically and culturally, while fostering inquiry, critical thinking and a sense of responsibility to the local and global environment. Recent investment has seen the construction of a new two‑storey extension that enhances the learning facilities. The ground floor houses a purpose‑built autism classroom with an adjoining outdoor space, creating a supportive setting for neurodiverse learners. The first floor adds an extra classroom and a dedicated Special Education Teaching (SET) room, expanding provision for all students. Although the school hall is temporarily unavailable during works, the wider community remains engaged through a strong partnership of staff, support assistants and parents, all committed to high‑quality education.

History

The original school building was erected in 1934 with just two rooms, now serving as the staff room and principal’s office. The first extension in 1995 added two classrooms, followed by a 2006 extension that introduced two more classrooms and the school hall. An infant classroom was added in 2012, and subsequently an autism classroom, a new main entrance and a secretary’s office were incorporated.
