About
Scoil Eoin Primary School is a co‑educational Catholic primary school serving the parish of Kilbarrack/Foxfield in Dublin 5, catering for Junior Infants through to Sixth Class. The school follows the national Primary School Curriculum and places a strong emphasis on holistic development, combining academic rigour with a focus on pupil wellbeing, inclusivity and community values. It provides a safe, welcoming environment that respects diversity of race, culture, religion, gender and ability, and works in partnership with parents and the local community to support each child’s full potential. The school benefits from good transport links by bus, train and road, making it accessible for families across the area. Extra‑curricular provision includes a long‑standing tradition in Gaelic games, with historic ties to the local GAA club Naomh Barróg, and a range of activities that promote physical health, creativity and social skills. Modern resources such as the Aladdin learning platform are available to enhance classroom learning, and the school’s ethos is encapsulated in its motto “Leas na n‑Óg” – for the benefit of the young.
History
Scoil Iosagáin opened in 1967 as a girls’ school and Scoil Lorcáin opened on 1 September 1971 as a boys’ school. Both schools expanded rapidly with large class sizes. In the late 1980s enrolments fell and the two schools amalgamated in 1989, adopting the name Scoil Eoin after the Parish of St John the Evangelist. A new school crest featuring the Eagle of St John from the Book of Kells was designed in 1990, together with the motto “Leas na n‑Óg”. The school inherited a strong sporting tradition, including the formation of a football league and the establishment of the Naomh Barróg GAA club in 1974.
