About
Scoil Mhuire agus Eoin is a Catholic co‑educational primary school situated in Mayfield, Cork, offering a broad‑based curriculum that balances strong literacy and numeracy foundations with a vibrant, stimulating learning environment. The school places the wellbeing, social and emotional development of each pupil at the centre of its ethos, fostering a supportive atmosphere where children are encouraged to reach their full potential. A dedicated team of staff promotes collaborative learning, continuous professional development and the integration of innovative teaching methods across all subjects. The school is recognised for its progressive projects, including a Creative Schools Arts initiative, a Digital Excellence programme with a focus on STEM and robotics, and active participation in the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA) forum. Facilities such as a dedicated Nurture Room, a sensory garden and specialised spaces for pupils with autism enhance inclusive education, while extracurricular clubs—ranging from Fun Club to Wear Red Day—provide a well‑rounded experience that nurtures creativity, teamwork and community spirit.
History
In September 2017 two long‑standing primary schools in the parish of Mayfield—Scoil Mhuire Banríon (founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1962) and Scoil Naomh Eoin Aspal (established in 1973)—amalgamated to form the co‑educational Scoil Mhuire agus Eoin. The merger revived the historic co‑educational tradition that existed at The Angel Guardian National School before 1962, continuing the strong Catholic and community‑focused legacy of both predecessor schools.
