About
Scoil Mhuire Allenwood is a Catholic, mixed‑gender national school situated in the village of Allenwood, County Kildare. It serves a vibrant community of roughly 267‑268 pupils drawn from the local catchment area, welcoming children of all faiths and nationalities. The school operates across two historic buildings – the original 1929 structure and a 1957 extension – which have been integrated into a single campus with shared play areas, fostering a cohesive learning environment. The curriculum is complemented by a strong emphasis on inclusive education, with a dedicated Learning Support team, an Autism Support (A.S.) unit and several Special Needs Assistants. Recent EU‑funded grants have equipped the school with modern ICT resources, including interactive whiteboards and portable devices, to bridge the digital divide and enhance teaching and learning. A broad range of extracurricular activities further enriches pupil experience, encouraging personal development alongside academic achievement.
History
Scoil Mhuire Allenwood was formed in August 2017 through the amalgamation of Allenwood Boys National School (established 1929) and Allenwood Girls National School (established 1957). Following a Whole School Evaluation recommendation in 2006 and renewed discussions as enrolments grew, the boards of management approved the merger in March 2017. After a parent survey confirmed support, the Department of Education authorised the amalgamation, and the new co‑educational school opened on 30 August 2017, uniting the two sites into a single campus and adopting the motto “Ní neart go cur le chéile” (Unity is strength).
