About
Scoil Mhuire B.N.S. is a Catholic primary school for boys situated on Grange Road in Rathfarnham, Dublin, catering for over 380 pupils. The school delivers a high‑standard, broad‑based education under the patronage of the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Dublin. A rich and varied curriculum is designed to develop each child’s spiritual, intellectual, artistic, physical, emotional and social potential, while fostering core values such as respect, honesty, courtesy, responsibility, tolerance and consideration for others. The teaching team works to create an inclusive atmosphere where cultural and religious diversity is respected and Irish heritage is celebrated. Beyond the core subjects, the school offers a wide programme of extracurricular activities—including sport, music, physical education and active‑schools initiatives—supporting the holistic development of pupils. Modern facilities accommodate 17 classes, providing ample space for classroom learning, specialist areas and community events, and the school maintains strong links with parents, encouraging partnership and open communication.
History
The origins of Scoil Mhuire B.N.S. date to July 1971 when the late Mgr O’Donnell, P.P., established the nucleus of a new boys’ school within Loreto National School, Grange Road, with the support of the Loreto Sisters, who had previously donated the site. In July 1973 the school became a separate entity, initially operating from prefabricated units in the Loreto yard; the former school on Willbrook Road reopened in 1975 to house two classes. On 10 January 1977 the school moved into its purpose‑built premises, welcoming 243 boys. Since then it has expanded to a 17‑class institution. Leadership passed from Mr Jim Molloy (until March 1998) to Dónall Ó Murchú (retired 2005), then Tom Mullins (retired June 2016), with the current principal being Edward O’Riordan.
