About

Scoil Mhuire na nGrás (Greenmount National School) is a co‑educational primary school situated in the historic Greenmount area of Cork City. It welcomes children from Junior Infants through to Sixth Class, with a current enrolment of over 250 pupils. The school’s ethos centres on providing a caring and happy environment that enables each child to develop their full potential both as an individual and as a member of society. A strong emphasis is placed on inclusive education, with programmes that support a wide range of learning needs and interests. The campus combines historic charm with modern facilities. The original school building, opened in 1967, was expanded by a large contemporary extension in 2013, creating spacious classrooms and specialised spaces such as a multi‑sensory room. Additional provisions include dedicated language classes, autism support classes, and a community play‑group for pre‑school children. The school also promotes active, outdoor learning through its “Active Green” initiatives, encouraging pupils to engage with the natural environment and develop a lifelong love of learning.

History

Founded in 1854 by the Presentation Brothers, Scoil Mhuire na nGrás has served the Greenmount community for over 160 years. The original school building was opened in 1967, and a substantial modern extension was added in 2013 to accommodate growing enrolments and contemporary educational provision. Throughout its history the school has maintained a close relationship with the Presentation Brothers, who continue to act as Trustees and support the school’s development.
