About
Tallow National School (Scoil Mhuire Tulach an Iarainn) is a mixed, Roman‑Catholic primary school serving children from Junior Infants to Sixth class. The school provides a contemporary learning environment with spacious, well‑lit classrooms designed to support interactive and inclusive teaching. Modern amenities include high‑speed broadband connectivity delivered through the Department of Education’s School Broadband Programme, part of the Irish National Recovery and Resilience Plan, ensuring that pupils have reliable access to digital resources. The school places a strong emphasis on inclusive education. It operates two Autism Spectrum Disorder (A.S.D.) classes, a dedicated Special Education provision, and an English as an Additional Language (EAL) teacher, supported by several Special Needs Assistants. Since being awarded Deis Rural status in 2022, the school offers free hot lunches to all pupils each day. These provisions, together with a focus on Catholic values under the patronage of the Bishop of Waterford and Lismore, create a supportive community that nurtures both academic achievement and personal development.
History
Scoil Mhuire, Tallow was built in 1980 to amalgamate the former boys’ and girls’ schools in the town. In September 2022 the school opened its first A.S.D. class and was granted Deis Rural status, enabling free hot lunches for all pupils. A second A.S.D. class was added in August 2025. The school also benefits from high‑speed broadband supplied under the Irish National Recovery and Resilience Plan, reflecting ongoing investment in its facilities and technology.
