About
Scoil Mocheallóg is a Catholic primary school situated in Kilmallock, Co. Limerick, catering for children from Junior Infants to Sixth Class (ages 4‑12). The school embraces an inclusive ethos, welcoming all pupils from the local area and providing a well‑ordered, caring and secure environment where intellectual, spiritual, physical, moral and cultural needs are identified and addressed. A strong emphasis is placed on the Irish language, Irish culture and the development of self‑esteem, respect for people and property, and personal responsibility. The school currently operates across two historic buildings – the former Girls’ School for junior pupils and the former Boys’ School for seniors – while awaiting the construction of a new, purpose‑built facility. With a roll of approximately 315 pupils, the staff team includes teachers, resource teachers and special‑needs assistants, supported by administrative and caretaking personnel. Parent involvement is actively encouraged through regular home‑school contact, participation in the Board of Management and the Parents’ Association, reinforcing a collaborative community spirit.
History
Scoil Uí Eilí (the Girls’ School) was founded in 1929 by the Sisters of Charity of St. Paul; the Sisters’ teaching role concluded with Sr Teresa’s retirement in January 2012. Scoil Peadar agus Pól (the Boys’ School) opened in 1966, having previously been located on Orr Street, while the Girls’ School occupied the first floor of the same building before 1929. In 2004 the two schools amalgamated to form Scoil Mocheallóg. The school now functions in the two original buildings, awaiting a new school building, and serves 315 pupils with a staff of 18 teachers, six resource teachers and additional support personnel.
